Observations by John Knott.

Four Drawings of March and April Aspects of Mars.

March 3rd 1997. X216 Disc 13.4"
w1=61.0

March 21st 1997. X360 Disc 14.0"
w1=272.8

April 12th 1997. X216 Disc 13.1"
w1=61.8

April 20th 1997. X360 Disc 12.6"
w1=331.9

Seeing for the 3rd March drawing was in the main poor compared with the observation of April 12th. Very similar w1 longitude, the other three drawings were made under good seeing, and all drawings made using 216mm Newtonian with red and blue filters.

March 3rd Observation though made in poor seeing shows a discrete white patch over the great martian Volcano Olympus Mons on the morning limb. Drawing of 21st March gives a fine view of Syrtis Major, while that of 21st April shows Mare Acidalium on the Northern limb.

The drawing of April 20th shows the Syrtis Major with Sinus sabaeus and Sinus Meridiani. Note the bright feature South of the Syrtis Major, Hellas. I can not remember it beeing so Bright. - J.K.
