Hi everyone!

I hope this is in the right place.  My Fiancée and i are looking at joining an Astronimical Society near to where we live in Wigan, you guys seem the obvious choice...

I know you guys meet up at Pex Hill, but i was wondering, what are the costs of joining the Society, what do you get from that cost, and how often is payment required?

My fiancée has been into Astronomy since she was a child, and was a member of the Bridgend Branch of the British Astronomical Society, even taking the role of Assistant Librarian!  She took a bit of a slip and didn't do anything for ages, but now, age 27, she's back into it with her new Refractor telescope.

I, on the otherhand, have always had an interest in the skies, but nothing ever came of it.  I had never looked into the purchase of a telescope, until now.  I'm rapidly learning what i need to know to start looking, and am in the market for a Reflector telescope after pay day (fiancée will be helping me choose a good one).

Can anyone offer any advice on the L.A.S. (for both myself, and for her), and indeed any advice on just starting out in Astronomy...

Ta!!

Andy

Hi Andy, The cost of joining the society is £15 per year, there are many benefits to joining the society, but what I would sugest both of you to come up to Pex Hill on a wednesday evening meet everyone (all very friendly) and have a chat, benefits in joining the society are to many to mention here, but if you check out our Syllabus on this site you will see just a small part of the benefits.
we look forward to seeing you at Pex

Thanks for the reply Brendan...  can you tell me, what kind of age group are you all?

We'll definately make the trip up, it'll probably be next week (need to get pay day sorted first)...

Hope to see you there!
