Hallo Daniel (Danny), It is always good to hear from a fellow astronomer.
Before you join the society (we very rarely say no) I would suggest that you attend perhaps one or two of our meetings at the Metropolitan Cathedral in the city center or at our weekly meeting at our observatory.
This will give you the chance to see, first hand, if we are what you are looking for. I am pleased to say that there is no charge for attending the first couple of  meetings unless you wish to join there and then. If that is your wish then the annual subscription would be £10 for the session September 2006 to May 2007. The society has an observatory at Pex Hill, Cronton which you may attend on each Wednesday from 19:00 - 21:00. The meetings are open throughout the year. If we have clear skies there are several telescopes for use and if cloudy that gives us time for talking and answering any questions that may come up.
At the observatory you will find a large collection of books for browsing or loan and access to the Internet(broadband). If, as a member, you do not have a telescope of your own but wish to try one then the society does have an 8 inch reflecting telescope for loan.
Directions to the observatory can be found at:

We have our latest monthly meeting on Friday November 17th in the Gibberd Room at the cathedral. The lecture is by one of our members, Dr Eric Jones whose subject will be "River Bores". The meeting room opens at 19:00 and the lecture starts at approximately 19:15 and finishes at 21:30.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and seeing you at our meeting this month. Please do make your self known to me and I will do my best to make you feel at home.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further details.
Yours sincerely David Galvin.

Hello,
I've been reading your site now for the past month or so. I live on the Wirral and am very new to astronomy,(although I'm very old). I have 2 telescopes a Bushnell 4.5 reflector, and a Meade LX90, 8inch (4 month old) All my star gazing is done from my garden, with a reasonable dark area to the South.
Would like to thank all those members who gave their time at the Wirral star party. I learnd a lot in a very short time. Will, when time permits attend your meetings at the Cathedral.
