I know to many it is probably not a big deal, but tonight my son and I drove to Pex Hill to try out 1st solo effort at star gazing, and, purely by accident i must admit, we found saturn and saw it's rings. We did actually see them at the open night, but tonight WE found it ourselves. Yey.

How did we find it, well I was trying out my new reflector and after Thomas scouting the sky with his refractor and doing very well i may add (I would point to a star and say see if you can get that, and well he was a whizz, literally point and go) I Thought that before we go home i'd see how good a dim star looked in it. Saw this one to the south west, got it in the spotter scope and then started the job of focusing and wow, as it was getting sharper i was like no way, but there it was, the dim 'star' that i just happened to pick on was not a star but saturn. Hurrah. It gave us both a good lift and feel good factor.

Congratulations to you both for making the solo trip and for bagging Saturn through the telescope. You can't beat finding an object, such as this, and I hope that you will always remember the moment.
