Hello there,

I have never really been interested in astronomy since my childhood days but after attending a star gazing trip during a holiday to Egypt at the beginning of the month my interest has expolded. The star gazing trip was unbeleivable and totally blew me away. I just cannot say what emotions I experienced there but it has fired up my interest.

We had the benifit of a guide and access to 2 telescopes, 1 on Jupiter and 1 on the milky way. Just unbeliveable. So many stars, shooting stars, satalites, WOW. I was able to take a picture of Jupiter, not vey good as just a white shinney circle but you can make out one of jupiters moons and I took it. So exciting, its now my computer screen wallpaper.

I hope that joining the society will help me get started. I have  no optics, no books etc and hope somebody out there can point me in the right direction (as there is just so much info on the internet) so I can continue to be amazed. I see there is a thing called a star party in the wirrel tonight and I hope to get there.

I live in Mold, North Wales but I am from Huyton and still have family there so hope to get to the meetings at Pex Hill.

Hi Barry, welcome to the wonderfull world of astronomy, Hope you made it to the star party at Thurstaston last night. We will be only to happy to help you along the way in your new found hobby, I would start with a book along the lines of getting started in astronomy the idiot (hate those titles) guides do a very good one and a pair of 10x50 binoculars are all that is needed to get you on your way, look forward to seeing you at Pex hill one Wednesday.
cheers
Brendan
