31  Astronomical Equipment / Help and Advice / Re: Looking for a new scope on: 27-Nov-2011 11:47:09 GMT
Hi Andrew, the scope your look ing at is a very good scope, it depends on what you wish to observe, if you wish to take images and how you will be using the scope, all these things need to be taken into account, pop up to Pex Hill and we can have a chat and hopefully show you a few different scopes (depending on the weather).
cheers

Hi Lee, Dave is right there are many questionsnot only the buyer may want to know but a good retailer will ask as many questions to make sure you get something that suits your needs, trying to chat over forums can be difficult but the points Dave raised are the main points, the most important obviously is budget.
cheers

Hi John, glad you managed to catch sight of Mars and Regulus, the colour may have been affected by atmospherics, there is a lot of moisture and of course there is the Moon to contend with.

40  General Chat / General Discussion / Hi everyone on: 19-Oct-2011 10:22:53 BST
From Gareth Lennon
I'd just like to introduce myself to everyone. I've loved Space and Space exploration for about 20 years now but have only recently got myself a telescope. The first time i used it was in the lake district and i got to see the planet Jupiter which was just amazing! That image of the beautiful planet and it's four moons will stay with me forever. Since i've got back, much to my girlfriends dismay (she just doesn't get my fascination with Space) i've been checking out the moon from my own backyard, needless to say i'm hooked now! I look forward to meetings with everyone and getting and sharing information with you all. I'm definitly going to try and make it to Pex hill, i'll keep checking the dates. Catch you all soon, Gareth.

we will look forward to seeing you any wednesday at Pex Hill
clear skies

Hi Les, from what I have been able to find out via the internet your scope is a refractor on a fork mount, which means it works in what we call Alt/Az. the first thing you will need to do is line up the finderscope, this is best done on an object on land, try setting it up on something as far away as possible this can be done during the day or best at night on a light in the distance, when you have an object in the lens of the telescope you can then adjust the finderscope with the screws on the ring that supports the finderscope to get the object centered on the crosshairs, when it is all lined up you should be able to find things easier, when using the scope use the highest number eyepiece first (should be 20 or 25mm eyepiece) the higher the number the lower the magnification, if you still have dificulty I suggest you come up to Pex Hill one Wednesday, we will be only to glad to help you get the best out of your scope.
clear skies

Hi Krys, I am not to sure about the public transport, I know it will be easy to get to Pex Hill but not so easy to get home as the services finish early.

Hi Krys, glad to see you have renewed your enthusiam for astronomy, you have made the best start (or should that be re-start) in using your 10x50 bino's, there is a lot that can be seen through them and it will help you find your way around, there are some excellent binocular targets at the moment, the Andromeda galaxy and the double cluster in Perseus to name but two also there is comet Garradd which can easily be found in bino's especially as the Moon is out of the way for a few days.
Clear Skies
