Title: Turning off the Street Lights
Post by: Kingcomet on 18-Feb-2008 03:28:36 UTC
I am pretty certain I know what the answer is going to be here, however I will ask anyway.

Last week there were reports that some councils down South were turning off the street lights during night time to save money. The public are not happy about it, for health but more importantly safety reasons.

How would we feel if either Liverpool, Knowsley or Sefton  councils were to start doing this?

Personally, can't speak for others, I have no problem with it if it helps save the environment by saving energy. Don't see any health problems and so far a safety goes the lack of light can be a benefit - if the muggers can't see you they can't mug you.

Less light pollution would be a potential benefit, but the lights would only be out after midnight or later .

Have no problems with this. Though I dont think it will  become  nationwide. We are just not ready for such a radical thing as this, even if it will help reduce our carbon footprint most people think of the safty aspect of it, when in reallity most are at home tucked up in bed.
