Title: Sky at night Sir Patrick Moore article re: Astronomical societies / clubs Post by: Chris Wharton on 19-Nov-2009 17:30:43 GMT I was reading Patrick Moores article the other month, and the importance of astronomical societies and clubs. It was then that I noticed that the LAS got a mention in the form of a photo of some members standing outside the Pex hill observatory. My question is how often is this venue used by the society, and are there any dates when it will be open?.

The observatory is open to members and visitors from 19:00 each Wednesday evening, rain or shine. These evenings are very informal and consist of observing when clear and/or general chatter. You are most welcome to come along and meet the gang, if you have any questions then you can get your answers over a cup or tea or coffee. Generally we suggest up to three visits and then ask if you would like to join (£15 per annum). Would it be ok to bring my son he is 14 nearly 15 and is planning to study Astro phyisics if his GCSE's and A Levels go well. I could also do with some advice and assistance with my telescope regarding it's collumation and polar alignment, it's a Celestron Astromaster 130EQ with a motor drive. Regarding waiting for three or four visits, I think I will join straight away, after reading through the site and looking at the history I've already made up my mind. Thanks in advance Chris
